Volunteer Opportunities with Women’s Storybook Project

Our volunteers do so much more than record a story! They also bring acceptance, warmth, smiles and encouragement to the women and their families we are honored to serve.Volunteering for Women’s Storybook Project of Texas provides a beautiful opportunity to directly  benefit women and children. Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization, helping us serve over 1,600 mothers and 3,600 children in central and east Texas through our transformational program. Our volunteers visit the 10 prisons we serve on the second and third Saturdays of each month, recording and uploading stories read by incarcerated mothers to their children. Last year, book and recordings of mom’s voice were mailed to children in 118 Texas counties, 35 states and New South Wales.

In addition to visiting the prisons, there are many other ways to help WSP further our mission. WSP has weekday and weekend volunteer opportunities that are flexible and can work with your schedule, whether it’s  working with technology, mailing packages, or sorting books..

Are you interested in volunteering? Click here to apply, and we will contact you.

Things to consider before applying to visit the prisons:

  • You must be a female and at least 18 years of age to work directly with incarcerated mothers as a Women’s Storybook Project volunteer.
  • You must pass a criminal background check conducted by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ). Once that is completed (typically within 4-6 weeks), you will receive a letter of approval from TDCJ.
