Volunteer Opportunities with Women’s Storybook Project
Our volunteers do so much more than record a story! They also bring acceptance, warmth, smiles and encouragement to the women and their families we are honored to serve.Volunteering for Women’s Storybook Project of Texas provides a beautiful opportunity to directly benefit women and children.
11 prisons Saturdays, Tuesday and Wednesdays are our prison days
From 2023 annual report – 99 counties in Texas 24 states.
454 Unduplicated mothers sent books recordings and bonding activities to their children.
843 Children received multiple books, recordings, bonding activities, and notes of love from mom.
6,995 Books were added to children’s home libraries.
In addition to visiting the prisons, there are many other ways to help WSP further our mission. WSP has weekday and weekend volunteer opportunities that are flexible and can work with your schedule, whether it’s working with technology, mailing packages, or sorting books.

Things to consider before applying to visit the prisons:
- You must be a female and at least 18 years of age to work directly with incarcerated mothers as a Women’s Storybook Project volunteer.
- You must pass a criminal background check conducted by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ). Once that is completed (typically within 4-6 weeks), you will receive a letter of approval from TDCJ.
