The Story that quieted the room…..
During a recent BAMBI session, volunteer Gina Lunsford began reading a picture book aloud to a room full of fussy babies and toddlers. Within moments, the room grew quietโevery little eye fixed on the story. Gina, a school librarian, first discovered Womenโs Storybook Project at theย Texas Library Association Conferenceย and felt called to be part of the mission. Since then, she has witnessed firsthand how books create calm, connection, and belonging for childrenโand how incarcerated mothersโ faces light up when those books arrive.
The stories give moms something to share with their children, something to talk about during visits and phone calls, and a way to remain present in their lives despite separation.
Gina reminds us that keeping families connected is vital to a healthy society. Through the simple act of reading aloud, she has seen how compassion and literacy can transform momentsโand strengthen bonds that endure beyond prison walls.
Thank you for being part of a community that makes these moments possible.
